What is a fire alarm system and why do you need one?
Fire Infinity Engineering Services installs, tests, maintains and upgrades fire alarm systems for buildings across Selangor and Kuala Lumpur. We are based in Sungai Buloh and work with property managers, factory owners, shop operators and homeowners throughout the Klang Valley.
Whether you are fitting out a new premises, preparing for your fire certificate (Perakuan Bomba) renewal, or dealing with a panel that keeps showing faults, we start with a free site visit and a clear assessment.
A fire alarm system detects signs of fire, such as smoke, heat or flame, and alerts occupants through bells, sounders and strobe lights. It can also be triggered manually through break glass call points.
In Malaysia, fire alarm requirements come from the Uniform Building By-Laws 1984 (UBBL). Part VIII of UBBL covers fire alarms, fire detection and extinguishment, starting from by-law 225. The Tenth Schedule sets out what each type of building needs, so a factory, a shopping lot and an office tower will each have different requirements.
The Malaysian Standard for fire detection and alarm systems is MS 1745, which covers the control panel, sounders, detectors and manual call points.
For designated premises under the Fire Services Act 1988 (Act 341), a valid fire certificate (Perakuan Bomba) is required and must be renewed every year. Operating designated premises without one is an offence under section 33, with penalties of a fine up to RM50,000, jail up to 5 years, or both. A working, well-maintained fire alarm system is a key part of keeping that certificate in order.
Designated premises are also required to have a Bomba monitoring link (SPKA, Sistem Pengawasan Kebakaran Automatik).
Types and components of fire alarm systems
Conventional fire alarm system
Detectors are grouped into zones. When an alarm goes off, the panel tells you which zone it came from. Suitable for smaller buildings with simple layouts.
Addressable fire alarm system
Each device has its own address, so the panel shows the exact detector or call point and its location. Better for large buildings, multi-storey blocks and sites where finding the source quickly matters.

Fire Alarm: frequently asked questions
Is a fire alarm system mandatory for my building?
It depends on the building type. UBBL's Tenth Schedule sets the requirements for each category of building. During our free site visit we will check what applies to your premises.
What is the difference between conventional and addressable fire alarms?
A conventional system tells you which zone the alarm came from. An addressable system shows the exact device and location, which makes it faster to respond in large buildings.
Why does my fire alarm keep going off for no reason?
Common causes include dirty or faulty detectors, wrong detector type for the area, damaged wiring and ageing panels. We can inspect the system and trace the cause.
Do I need a fire alarm system to renew my Perakuan Bomba?
For designated premises, the fire certificate must be renewed every year and your fire safety systems need to be in working order. We recommend starting the renewal process at least 30 days before expiry.
What is SPKA?
SPKA (Sistem Pengawasan Kebakaran Automatik) is the automatic fire alarm monitoring link to Bomba. It is required for designated premises.
Can you upgrade our old fire alarm system instead of replacing everything?
Often, yes. After a site visit we will tell you which parts can be kept, which need replacing, and whether moving to an addressable system makes sense.

Kenapa sistem penggera kebakaran penting?
Keperluan sistem penggera kebakaran ditetapkan dalam Undang-Undang Kecil Bangunan Seragam 1984 (UBBL), Bahagian VIII. Jadual Kesepuluh menentukan keperluan mengikut jenis bangunan. Standard yang digunakan ialah MS 1745.
Bagi premis yang ditetapkan di bawah Akta Perkhidmatan Bomba 1988 (Akta 341), Perakuan Bomba perlu diperbaharui setiap tahun. Beroperasi tanpa perakuan yang sah adalah satu kesalahan, dengan denda sehingga RM50,000, penjara sehingga 5 tahun, atau kedua-duanya. Premis yang ditetapkan juga perlu mempunyai sambungan pemantauan Bomba (SPKA).
