What Is a Fire Suppression System and Why Do You Need It?
A fire suppression system is designed for exactly these risks. Fire Infinity Engineering Services installs, tests, maintains and repairs fire suppression systems across Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, including FM-200, Novec 1230, inert gas, CO2 and wet chemical kitchen systems.

A fire suppression system detects a fire in a specific room or piece of equipment and automatically discharges an extinguishing agent to put it out. Unlike sprinklers, gas-based systems leave no water damage, which makes them the preferred choice for high-value electrical and data equipment.
Relevant requirements and standards include:
UBBL 1984, Part VIII – covers fire detection and extinguishment (by-laws from 225 onwards), with the Tenth Schedule setting requirements by building type.
MS ISO 14520 – the standard for gaseous fire-extinguishing agents, including HFC-227ea (FM-200), IG-541 and IG-55.
Fire Services Act 1988 (Act 341) – designated premises must hold a valid fire certificate (Perakuan Bomba), renewed every year. Operating without one is an offence under section 33, with a fine of up to RM50,000, up to 5 years in jail, or both.
Keeping your suppression system tested and maintained helps protect your equipment and supports a smooth Perakuan Bomba renewal. We recommend starting the renewal at least 30 days before expiry.
Types of Fire Suppression Systems
A typical system includes agent cylinders, discharge pipework and nozzles, fire detectors, a suppression control panel, manual release and abort switches, and warning signs and alarms.
FM-200 (HFC-227ea)
A clean agent for server rooms, data centres, control rooms, switch rooms and archives.
Novec 1230 (FK-5-1-12)
A clean agent used for the same kinds of spaces: server rooms, data centres, control and switch rooms, and archives.
Inert gas (IG-541 / IG-55)
Suppression using inert gas mixtures, also suited to server rooms, data centres, control rooms and archives.
CO2 (carbon dioxide)
For unoccupied electrical rooms, transformer rooms and paint lines. CO2 total flooding carries an asphyxiation risk and is only for spaces that are not occupied by people.
Wet chemical kitchen suppression
For commercial kitchen hoods, where cooking oil and fat fires need a dedicated system.

Suppression: frequently asked questions
What is the difference between FM-200 and Novec 1230?
Both are clean agents used to protect server rooms, data centres, control rooms and archives. FM-200 is HFC-227ea; Novec 1230 is FK-5-1-12. We help you choose the right one during the site visit.
Can CO2 suppression be used in an office or server room where people work?
No. CO2 total flooding carries an asphyxiation risk and should only be used in unoccupied spaces such as electrical rooms, transformer rooms and paint lines.
Will a suppression system damage my servers?
Clean agent and inert gas systems are used in server rooms and data centres because they do not leave water damage like sprinklers can.
Do commercial kitchens need a special system?
Cooking oil and fat fires need wet chemical protection. A wet chemical suppression system protects the kitchen hood, and a wet chemical extinguisher is the correct portable choice for oil fires.
What happens after a suppression system discharges?
