What Is a Fire Hydrant System and Why Do You Need It?
Fire Infinity Engineering Services installs, tests, maintains and repairs fire hydrant systems across Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, including fire pump sets and underground main leak detection and repair. We are based in Sungai Buloh, and every job starts with a free site visit.
If your jockey pump keeps running, your system keeps losing pressure, or your hydrants are due for testing, we can help you find the problem and fix it properly.
A fire hydrant system is a network of pipes, valves and outlets that supplies water for firefighting. External hydrants (pili bomba) are typically located within 30 m of the building entrance or breeching inlet, and hydrants are generally spaced no more than about 90 m apart.
Inside the building, firefighting mains (risers) carry water to landing valves on each floor, fed through a breeching inlet that Bomba can connect to.
Key requirements and standards include:
UBBL 1984, Part VIII – covers fire detection and extinguishment (by-laws from 225 onwards), with the Tenth Schedule setting requirements by building type.
MS 1489 Part 2 – Malaysian Standard for wet and dry firefighting mains.
MS 1210 – landing valves and breeching inlets for risers.
Fire Services Act 1988 (Act 341) – designated premises must hold a valid fire certificate (Perakuan Bomba), renewed yearly. Operating without one is an offence under section 33, with a fine of up to RM50,000, up to 5 years in jail, or both.
A hydrant system that cannot hold pressure is a serious problem. We recommend applying for your Perakuan Bomba renewal at least 30 days before expiry, so repairs can be done in time.

Components of a Fire Hydrant System
External hydrants (pili bomba)
Pillar hydrants around the site for Bomba connection

Our Hydrant Services
01
Installation
We install hydrant systems, underground mains, pump sets, risers, landing valves and breeching inlets for new buildings and extensions, laid out to UBBL and the relevant Malaysian Standards.
02
Testing & Commissioning
We test pressure, flow and pump operation before handover, including automatic start of the pumps, and give you documented results.
03
Maintenance
Pump sets need a weekly churn test plus regular pressure switch and flow tests. We provide scheduled maintenance for pumps, valves, hydrants and control panels, with records for your fire certificate inspection.
04
Repair & Underground Leak Detection
Underground main leaks are one of the most common hydrant problems. Typical signs are a pressure drop in the system and a jockey pump that runs frequently. We locate the leak, excavate and repair the affected section, and restore system pressure. We also replace corroded pipes and faulty valves, and repair or upgrade pump sets.

FAQ
Hydrant: frequently asked questions
Why does my jockey pump keep starting and stopping?
A jockey pump that runs frequently usually means the system is losing pressure. A common cause is a leak in the underground main, but faulty valves or pressure switches can also be responsible.
How do you find an underground main leak?
We start with the symptoms – pressure drop and how often the jockey pump runs – then inspect the network on site to pinpoint the leak before excavating and repairing only the affected section.
How often should a fire pump be tested?
Fire pump sets should have a weekly churn test, along with regular pressure switch and flow tests.
What is the difference between the jockey, duty and standby pump?
The jockey pump maintains pressure. The electric duty pump supplies water during a fire. The diesel standby pump takes over if power fails or the duty pump cannot cope.
How far should a hydrant be from my building?
External hydrants are typically within 30 m of the building entrance or breeching inlet, and hydrants are generally no more than about 90 m apart.
Can a leaking hydrant system affect my Perakuan Bomba?
Yes, it can. A system that cannot hold pressure may hold up your renewal, so it is best to fix it early.

Kenapa Sistem Pili Bomba Penting?
Set Pam Pili Bomba
Pam joki (jockey) – mengekalkan tekanan sistem
Pam elektrik utama (duty) – membekalkan air ketika kebakaran
Pam diesel siap sedia (standby) – sandaran jika bekalan elektrik terputus
Soalan Lazim
Kenapa pam joki saya kerap hidup dan mati?
Biasanya sistem sedang kehilangan tekanan.
Berapa kerap pam pili bomba perlu diuji?
Ujian churn perlu dibuat setiap minggu, bersama ujian suis tekanan dan aliran secara berkala.
Adakah kebocoran sistem pili bomba menjejaskan Perakuan Bomba?
Ya, boleh. Sebaiknya baiki awal, dan mohon pembaharuan sekurang-kurangnya 30 hari sebelum sijil tamat tempoh.
