A fire blanket smothers a small fire by cutting off its oxygen. It is quick to use, needs no refilling and is ideal where small fires can start suddenly – kitchens, laboratories and homes. Fire blankets are made to BS EN 1869.
A smoke curtain is a fire-resistant fabric barrier, usually hidden in a compact housing above an opening. When the fire alarm activates, the curtain drops automatically to contain smoke. This keeps escape routes clearer for longer and helps people evacuate safely. Smoke curtains are tested to EN 12101-1.
Used together, they cover two different jobs: the fire blanket deals with a small fire at its source, while the smoke curtain protects escape routes if a fire grows.
Smoke curtains are often specified where a solid wall or door is not practical – open-plan lobbies, lift openings, atriums and large retail spaces.
Both products are part of your building's overall fire safety. Under the Fire Services Act 1988 (Act 341), designated premises must hold a valid fire certificate (Perakuan Bomba), renewed every year. Keeping all of your fire protection equipment in working order helps your renewal go smoothly.

Smoke Curtain: frequently asked questions
How does a fire blanket work?
It smothers a small fire by cutting off its oxygen. Pull the tapes, lay the blanket over the fire, and leave it in place until the fire is fully out and cool.
Can I use a fire blanket on a cooking oil fire?
Yes, a fire blanket is well suited to small pan fires in kitchens. Never use water on burning oil. For larger commercial kitchens, a wet chemical extinguisher or suppression system is also needed.
How does a smoke curtain know when to drop?
It is connected to the building's fire alarm system. When the alarm activates, the curtain deploys automatically.
Where are lift smoke curtains used?
They are installed in front of lift doors to stop smoke from spreading between floors through the lift shaft.
What standard do smoke curtains follow?

Apa Itu Selimut Api dan Tirai Asap?
