What is a fire sprinkler system and why do you need one?
Fire Infinity Engineering Services installs, tests, maintains and repairs fire sprinkler systems for commercial, industrial and residential buildings across Selangor and Kuala Lumpur. We are based in Sungai Buloh and cover the Klang Valley.
Whether you need a new sprinkler installation, a system that has been sitting without proper maintenance, or a fault that needs tracing, we start with a free site visit.
A fire sprinkler system is a network of pipes, valves and sprinkler heads connected to a water supply. Each sprinkler head reacts to heat individually. Only the heads exposed to enough heat will open, so water is released where the fire is.
In Malaysia, fire protection requirements, including extinguishment systems, are set under Part VIII of the Uniform Building By-Laws 1984 (UBBL), from by-law 225 onwards. The Tenth Schedule determines what each type of building needs.
The Malaysian Standard MS 1910 covers automatic sprinkler systems, including design, installation and maintenance.
For designated premises under the Fire Services Act 1988 (Act 341), a fire certificate (Perakuan Bomba) must be renewed every year. Operating without one is an offence under section 33, punishable by a fine up to RM50,000, jail up to 5 years, or both. A sprinkler system that is not maintained can put that certificate at risk.

Types of fire sprinkler systems
Wet pipe system
Pipes are always filled with water. When a sprinkler head opens from heat, water flows immediately. The most common type for general buildings.
Dry pipe system
Pipes hold air instead of water. When a head opens, the air releases and water then flows into the pipes.
Pre-action system
Detection must happen first before water enters the pipes. This helps avoid accidental discharge, making it suitable for server rooms and archives.
Deluge system
All heads are open. When the system activates, water discharges through every head at once. Used for high-hazard areas.

Sprinkler: frequently asked questions
Does my building need a sprinkler system?
It depends on the building type and use. UBBL's Tenth Schedule sets the requirements. We will check what applies during the free site visit.
What is the difference between wet pipe and dry pipe sprinklers?
A wet pipe system is always full of water, so it discharges immediately when a head opens. A dry pipe system holds air, and water only enters the pipes after a head opens.
Will all the sprinklers go off at once?
In wet pipe, dry pipe and pre-action systems, only the heads exposed to enough heat open. All heads discharge together only in a deluge system, which is used for high-hazard areas.
Which sprinkler system is best for a server room?
A pre-action system helps avoid accidental discharge. For many server rooms, a gas-based suppression system is also worth considering. We can advise on site.
Why is my jockey pump running so often?
A jockey pump keeps the system under pressure. If it runs frequently, there may be a leak or a pressure drop in the pipework. We can investigate and repair it.
How often should a sprinkler system be maintained?
Sprinkler systems should be maintained regularly in line with MS 1910, and pump sets should have a weekly churn test. We can set up a maintenance plan for your building.

Kenapa sistem pemercik penting?
Keperluan sistem pencegah kebakaran ditetapkan dalam Bahagian VIII Undang-Undang Kecil Bangunan Seragam 1984 (UBBL), dan Jadual Kesepuluh menentukan keperluan mengikut jenis bangunan. Standard Malaysia untuk sistem pemercik automatik ialah MS 1910, yang meliputi reka bentuk, pemasangan dan penyelenggaraan.

Jenis sistem pemercik
Paip basah (wet pipe) – paip sentiasa berisi air. Jenis paling biasa.
Paip kering (dry pipe) – paip berisi udara sehingga kepala pemercik terbuka.
Pra-tindakan (pre-action) – pengesanan berlaku dahulu sebelum air masuk ke paip. Sesuai untuk bilik server dan arkib.
Banjir (deluge) – semua kepala terbuka serentak. Untuk kawasan berisiko tinggi.
Perkhidmatan dan proses kami
Kami menyediakan pemasangan, ujian dan pentauliahan, penyelenggaraan (termasuk ujian churn mingguan pam serta ujian suis tekanan dan aliran), dan pembaikan seperti paip berkarat, injap rosak dan kebocoran.
Set pam biasanya terdiri daripada pam jockey (mengekalkan tekanan), pam elektrik utama, dan pam diesel sebagai sandaran. Jika pam jockey kerap berjalan, itu mungkin tanda ada kebocoran atau penurunan tekanan dalam sistem.

Tidak. Hanya kepala yang terkena haba yang cukup akan terbuka, kecuali sistem deluge yang memang direka untuk membuka semua kepala.
Kenapa pam jockey saya kerap berjalan?
Pam jockey mengekalkan tekanan sistem. Jika ia kerap berjalan, mungkin ada kebocoran atau penurunan tekanan dalam paip. Kami boleh periksa dan baiki.
Adakah bangunan saya perlu sistem pemercik?
Bergantung pada jenis dan kegunaan bangunan mengikut Jadual Kesepuluh UBBL. Kami akan semak semasa lawatan tapak.
